I've been meaning to post this all day...

but I got distracted.

Shameless self promotion: More plates this week!

Why yes, that is a diseased heart! On a plate! What a great gift idea for Valentine's Day!

I'm working hard to replenish my etsy shop -- there will be seven new plates (and some more baby things) by weeks' end.

In the meantime, think about who you might like to give a diseased heart plate. Quick true story: Many years ago for Valentine's Day, a boyfriend gave me a crown of thorns plant and the 45 of Prince's "How Come U Don't Call Me". Weirdly, I thought this was REALLY romantic. I still think he's a supercool guy. Thanks, facebook!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would actually think this is romantic...
Right?

UPDATE: The plate is up on Etsy (click link on the right side of my page) as well as a few other things. I'm going to work on baby knits for the rest of the day. You know, to balance things out.

We had family time this weekend.

Things have been a little stressful around here lately. I'm not going to bore you with the details. It'll all work out.

The answer this weekend turned out to be lots of family activity time.

We went to The Mall -- Air & Space, American Indian (best museum cafe on the planet) and the Arboretum. Totally fun and I found a secret free parking place. Take that, DC parking meters!

Today we went to the park in Greenbelt. There was a lot of nature, which was nice, but I really enjoyed taking about a hundred photos of a giant trash bin.

Good weekend. Long weekend. Ready to get back to work (I'm madly working away at new decoupage work for my Etsy shop...hopefully sone new, non-baby related stuff will be up by the end of the week.)

Oh, and I don't feel quite so tense about things anymore. Sorry about the weird post.

Cool little meme going on over at facebook...

Are you on fb? I'm a great fan -- and heavy user -- of this service. I've reconnected with many old friends, made some acquaintances into real friends and (believe it or not) learned a lot about my life. Definitely an interesting social experiment.

Last week, women posted the color of their bras, ostensibly to raise awareness about breast cancer. Charles really liked those posts... He really liked them. Really. I have a feeling he wasn't the only fan of that meme.

This week, people are posting old photos of themselves as their profile pics. Have you updated yours?

Oh me? I've been pretty busy.

If you've ever noticed the Etsy badge on the right, you've probably noticed some new things...things that don't really seem like they belong in a shop full of skeletons and bodies and the like. What can I say? As far as craft goes, I'm multipolar. Is that a word? It is now...

Never fear, I have quite a few new skeletal plates in the works, as well as some truly strange stuff that I'm very excited about. I just need to stretch out a bit.

(This one isn't up yet -- just finished it this morning. Monday, I promise.)

I'm going to bake another loaf of bread now, make a lovely bevvie (cappucino, it's still pretty early) and start planning my projects for this year's Thing-A-Day, which starts in just a few weeks. Oh, and add paint layers to three plates, getgoung on another hat and generally run in a thousand directions. All at once. Can't help it sometimes.

(I'm going to be needing this.)

I've got the midwinter blahs

and it's not even midwinter. I'm working on new plates, new hats, new plans for Thing-A-Day 2010 (this will be my third year)...

That said, I'm finding myself sighing alot. Seems like it's been cold forever, and the snow that was so lovely two weeks ago? What remains is dirty, nasty mini icebergs. **sigh** Well...there are exciting things to look forward to...

Totally unrelated: have Johnny Depp and Jack White morphed into one person?

You better not pout

Do you think I should post my open invitation for a home-cooked meal again?

Something to do with holiday leftovers

SoyNog-Bittersweet Chip Bread Pudding

I'm trying to clear out a few holiday pantry remainders -- leftover SoyNog, open package of chocolate chips, ends of crusty bread... This easy bread pudding combines those ingredients for a luscious end-of-holiday treat.

1 quart SoyNog (Silk makes a good one...you could also use regular nog but it's going to be a lot heavier)

1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips (or any chocolate you have on hand)

About 6 cups old dry crusty bread, chopped into small cubes (I freeze the ends and remainders of baguettes for these occaisions)

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, making sure to moiston all the bread. Allow mixture to stand, mixing occaisionally, for at least 45 minutes, until all the bread is well moistened.

Preheat the oven to 350f. Pour moistened bread and chip mixture (with any remaining liquid) into a baking dish. Bake on the middle rack for about 40 minutes, until the top is browned and the pudding is set. Allow to cool for 10 minutes.

If you also have some leftover whipping cream taking up space in your fridge, whipped cream (without additional sugar) is a very nice accompaniment.

Wishing you and all who love you a wonderful 2010.

(late edit: I should have mentioned that this hand belongs to Maggie, who is indeed a full hand now, and the heart is one of many that she made today after discovering that hole punch. It's possible that there are too many craft supplies in this house, but in this case, it worked out to be pretty sweet.)
